Picture refinement.

Olympic rings.

For the tab which folds up on my design, i have decided to put the Olympic rings with famous British athletes in the middle.

Track list.

For the track list of my final piece i have chosen the following songs:
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony

Oasis - Wonderwall

Underworld - Caliban's dream.

Muse - survival.

London Symphony Orchestra - Chariots of Fire

Coldplay - Viva La Vida

Adele - Rolling in the Deep

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out.

Madness - Our House

Elbow - One Day Like This

The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go

Emeli Sande - Read All About It

Kaiser Chiefs - Pinball Wizard

I have chosen these songs as these songs were ones which were often played in London 2012 Olympic games and all of the songs are very upbeat songs which could inspire athletes.

Map.

For the background of the back of my piece, i decided i wanted to show the place where the games originated from. so i picked an old looking map of greece for my track list to go over.

Newpaper.

For the front of my piece, i decided i wanted to make it look like a newspaper with many different olympic headlines from over the years scattered over it. To do this, i scanned a newspaper for my background and researched various, famous headlines from across the olympic years. i then placed them on the newspaper background changing the opacity and font size to give it a layered, distant look.

Old Pictures.

I have also been creating pictures like the one above for the inside of my CD cover. I first added a box around the picture and block coloured the background white, I then added a drop shadow to make it look a if the picture is sticking out from the paper. I then duplicated the image, desaturated it, altered the colour balance (increasing the red bar to around +30 and decreasing the yellow bar to around -30) and then I added a noise of 25 to the image, which gave it an old looking effect.
I did the same steps to several images.

Torch 3.

This was my third attempt at the olympic torch. I have used the same gradient effect and liquify as the pervious two. This version has a blue outline around the top edge of the fire. Overall, I think my second attempt at the torch was the most effective and the most realistic one.

Torch 2.

This was my second attempt at the Olympic torch. For this version, i have used the same gradient effect, and i have used the liquify filter to make the fire look more intricate and less cartoon-like.

Torch.

For my final piece, i decided to make the Olympic torch. The torch had a gradient which lightened the colour towards the middle of the torch. The effect given from the gradient colour is that it makes the torch look more spherical and 3D.

Silhouettes.

I have tried using my own silhouettes with the 1966 writing i created last lesson, i have done this to see which perspective of the silhouettes is the best. as last lesson, i determined that the '1966' i created, which is above, is the best one.

In last lesson, I was refining my font so that it actually looked like the silhouette's of people were stood on the font. The third attempt was the best, as it was the one that looked most realistic.

homework.

Layer masks – Allows the user to obscure an entire layer or just a selected part of it.

Filter – Filters are used to change the appearance of an image. They are almost like adding an effect.

Bezier curves – A parametric curve frequently used in computer graphics.

Clone stamp – The clone stamp tool paints one part of an image over another part of the same image or over another part of any open document that has the same colour mode.

Adjustment layers – Layers are used in digital image editing to separate different elements of an image.

Colour mode – Photoshop colour mode RGB, uses the RGB model, assigning an intensity value to each pixel and therefore defining the colour.

Oceans Eleven.

In todays lesson, i have been recreating  Neville Brody's ocean eleven image.i did this image to develop my techniques on photoshop and so that i am able to use them on my final piece. in next lesson, i will be refining my image again.

Our own CD net design.

In Fridays lesson, we created the CD nets that we like out of bigger paper so that they were actual size, and the CD could fit in. I did two designs then chose my favourite, I did this because in Brief 2 it states to consider a range of artists. By doing this, I have considered a range of designs and chose my favourite one which I will go on to take inspiration from when creating my final response.

Nets.

In todays leson, we have been looking at nets, and looking to create our own nets to be CD covers, i liked the design by pfadfinderei/florian which was designed to look like an adidas shoe/boot, which relates to my brief of memories and words of athlete's.

Creating a font.

In today's lesson i have been creating a font which relate's to my theme of British history, as my initial idea is to incorporate British culture, such as war's and mining and British sports icon's, such as George best, Mo Farah and Bobby Moore. We created the font so that we are able to use it in our final piece. Next lesson i will create a font with thick edges in the style of David Carson.

Second attempt at blending two David Carson images.

This was my second attempt at blending the 'connection' image and the 'pepsi' image together. This time I tryed to use a bright coloured font but this didnt look as effective as the plain black writing. This relates to my brief as its an example of how to use the 'find edges' which is used to make the 'connection' image.

First attempt at blending two David Carson images.

this is my first attempt and carsons 'pepsi' image, but i tryed to incorporate carsons 'connection' style into this by blending the ink edges of the 'connection' image with the colours and typography of the 'pepsi' image. We did this to try and understand the styles David Carsons uses in his work.

Using David Carson's style to recreate my own image.

I then tried David Carson's style he used for the banana on my own image of Cristiano Ronaldo. This picture has meaning to me as when i was growing up, Ronaldo was my idol and my favourite footballer. I will use this style to recreate more image's in this style and i will use this technique to recreate more famous athlete's. For my final idea, I will try to recreate the image's using myself and then using the 'find edge's' technique on my own image's.

Using David Carsons style to recreate my own image.

I then changed the image to a picture of Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, then tryed this style again. This has meaning to me as these player's are some of my idol's. I will use this style to recreate more image's in this style and i will use this technique to recreate more famous athlete's. For my final idea, I will try to recreate the image's using myself and then using the 'find edge's' technique on my own image's.

Re-creating David Carson's 'connection' image.

We have tried to re-create David Carson's 'connection' image. We did this to learn the style's and the concept behind the 'connection' image. I am now going to try the same techniques on my own images which relate to my memories and words brief.

Using David Carson's style to re-create my own image.

In previous lessons, we have been looking at the work of Neville Brody, I have chosen two different Eminem lyrics, these have different meanings.

Lyrics.

I have chosen the lyrics ''this opportunity comes once in a lifetime''. This is because sometime's you have only one chance to do something, and you should do it while you have the chance.

Re-creating the 'tear up the plans' image.

I have created this image to try out some of the technique's Neville use's. It relate's to my brief as it is looking at different style's of typography.

David Carson and Neville Brody's work.

In todays lesson, we have been looking at David Carson and Neville Brody's work. We used layer effect's to add different style's. The 'difference' and 'subtract' were the best layer effect's that I used.
These two artist's are two typography artist's so this is how it relate's to the design brief.

Brief 2.

In brief 2, the final product we will be creating a cd cover. The theme is 'memories and words'.
my final artwork must include appropriate use of language, appropriate photography and/or your own graphics and appropriate use of lighting and colour. In lesson, i will cover two designers, the first being David Carson and the second being Neville Brody.
